We go through so many transitions in our lives. As we get older these transitions can become increasingly daunting. Our expectations of how things were ‘supposed’ to be collide with what’s actually happening in our life. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Join Daisy Swan, career coach and mindfulness instructor, for this day of exploration and discovery to help you to step into a new and kinder way of being in transition, to invite more ease, to move to the next chapter of your life. Using a variety of exercises, vision boards, mindfulness meditation and discussion, participants will have tools to use again and again – beyond this helpful and informative day. Bring a lunch or walk to a local eatery with the group. A one-hour follow-up conference call is included.

In Transition: Choosing a Happier Way to What’s Next

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

It’s clear that most of us are experiencing more uncertainty in our lives than ever before. Shifts in our employment, LifeStage, or values – it’s easy to be overwhelmed by all of the change. Transitions of all kinds take courage, new dreams, visions and encouragement. I understand the fear and anxiety that surfaces, but I also know there’s a different approach we can take.

Join me to explore a new way of working with change, uncertainty, new choices and opportunities. Approaching transition with an eye for developing resilience and self-compassion, can turn this time into one of happiness and ease.

Learn useful techniques to explore options for new careers, jobs, lifestyles, and ways of relating to your life. We’ll utilize assessments that help each person understand their strengths, motivations and personality, to help in finding the clearest steps to their new path. Mindfulness meditation will be introduced, which provides a calming foundation practice to increase happiness, intuition and creativity, while minimizing stress and anxiety.

So join me, Daisy Swan, for this on-line class that will “meet” six (6) times, for 75 minutes each session. I’ll provide tools, exercises, instruction and resources to encourage creative thinking and new insights.

Each member of the group will be held accountable for ‘doing the work’ they choose to help them move along their “What’s Next” path. Group members will also receive 30 minutes of one-on-one phone or Skype coaching time with me. Men and women of all ages are invited.

Tuesdays, 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM (Pacific); January 21 & 28, 2014, and then February 4, 11, 18, and 25. Meetings will take place via teleconference; call-in details will be circulated to paid registrants prior to the first class.

$240.00 (can be paid in two installments): Includes all 6 sessions; a copy of Daisy’s e-book ‘Making Work Work: Secrets from a Career Coach’s Office’, as well as other valuable handouts and 30 minutes of individual coaching with Daisy via phone/Skype. Also includes access to recorded versions of each class.

‘Transitioning’ Class ($240.00 for all 6 meetings):

What People Are Saying about Daisy Swan’s “Transitioning” Teleclass:

“I loved the fact that each class started with meditation and that reinforced my practice. The technique used is quite simple and easy to love even for people that never meditate. (Vipassana)

I love the small group formula as listening to other life experiences and insights helped me to step out of my own questions. Career change brings some similar emotions amongst people although in different contexts. It was truly a joy to listen and be listened to. It also kept me on my toes. I had to do my homework if I wanted to share something with the group. Yes, there is homework and if you do it, boy, you get the job done, aka targeting what’s going on and what you want to do next.

Daisy brought us various tools that address the emotional issue of career change as well as very practical tools, such as resume building, interview preparation and various tips to help transition into this new career.

Bottom line: The reason why I took the class was because I wanted to clarify what my ‘next career move’ would be. Did the seminar help? Hell yeah! I know where I want to head. Not bad for a mere once-a-week meeting, for only six weeks. What a gift! Thank you for this!”

~ G.G., September/October 2013 “In Transition: Choosing a Happier Way to What’s Next” Coaching Class Participant

“I took a ‘transitions’ workshop with Daisy in the Fall of 2013. We covered a lot of helpful territory such as resumes, informational interviews, self-assessment and imagination exercises. We also explored ways to tap into personal, internal resources and energy, which was equally if not more helpful than the more familiar topics. These strategies have helped me feel more personally powerful and grounded during my career change, which, in turn, provides a boost for taking all of those other external actions.”

Calm Communication: Skillful Strategies for Stressful Situations

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

(an InsightLA program led by Career Coach, Daisy Swan)

Years of working with clients on clarifying their personal and professional goals, has made it clear to me that what’s really important is how we communicate with, and to, ourselves. From this foundation of self-talk we go out and talk to others – about who we are and what we’re about. So from my perspective, communication is the foundation of absolutely everything.

While a job search is comprised of a set of mechanical steps to which we need to adhere (to some extent that part is easy to learn), the trickier issue is who we are being, and how we communicate with others so that they feel heard and seen – and likewise, how easily others can see us for who we genuinely are.

Studies show that most job dissatisfaction comes from poor communication (ok, terrible communication) with a boss, and/or co-workers. Verbal and emotional recklessness are rampant in workplaces, not to mention in relationships of all kinds. It behooves us to work on these complex and key skills of speaking and listening, which have so much to do with our effectiveness and happiness at home and at work.

To this end, Daisy Swan, Career Strategist, Coach and Counselor, is once again offering her six-week class, “Calm Communication: Skillful Strategies for Stressful Situations”, at InsightLA (a mindfulness center in Santa Monica). But this time, she’s revised the curriculum. Last series, Daisy focused on the communication skills of introverts; this time, she’s widening the scope to include extroverts. Why? Because we all need some help developing our ability to be present, to really hear one another. And to speak in ways that help others to hear us.

Using the foundational practice of mindfulness meditation, Daisy will share a variety of tools, exercises and practices to increase presence, to really be with another. Interviewing, leading, running your own shop, staying connected with kids…it all comes down to being present and to communicating, to get the results you really want.

Reading list and materials will be provided.

Dates: Wednesdays; September 18 & 25; October 2, 16, 23 and 30 (no class October 9)

Time: 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Location: InsightLA 14th Street* (1826 14th St., Santa Monica, CA 90404)

Please join us on Wednesday, November 14,2012 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, at Tara Gurung Black‘s Culver City restaurantTara’s Himalayan Cuisine, as she plays host to Los Angeles’ philanthropic community at a Waves For Water “Nepal Fundraising Event”.

During the November 14 event, Jack and Jon Rose, of Waves For Water, will join Daisy Swan (www.daisyswan.com), Natalie Compagno (http://travelbooks.com/), Tara Gurung Black and Sunny Chayes (host of “Singin’ in the Rain” on 99.3 KCLA), in a conversation about inventing a career that combines making a living with having fun, adventure travel and helping others. The evening will also include wine, hors d’oeuvres courtesy of the restaurant, a raffle, and hosted valet parking.

The November 14 event’s purpose is to raise funds and support for Waves For Water’s next project, with the goal of bringing safe drinking water to more than 10,000 people in Nepal. This project comes on the heels of Waves For Water’s other recent projects – which all met with great success – in Africa, Haiti, Indonesia, South America, and North Korea, among  other remote locales, as well as on the ‘home front”, in our very own South Dakota.

Waves For Water’s mission is to bring safe drinking water to regions in need, often in emergency response situations after disasters, by delivering filtration systems in the form of portable water filters. Since its inception in 2009, Waves For Water has teamed up with governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and militaries and United Nations agencies around the world, as well as with other non-profit organizations backed by some Hollywood heavy hitters. Their goal: To both deliver, and help to sustain, safe water solutions that they have been able to put into place which, to date, have turned un-potable water into clean, drinkable fluids for more than 2 million people around the globe, using no fewer than 89,000 water filters.

Event guests will be able to purchase water filters that Jon Rose will be bringing to Nepal the week after the November 14 event. Each filter costs $50.00, and brings safe drinking water to over 100 people. Event attendees will also be able to make monetary donations on-site. Those who cannot attend the event but wish to make a donation to this cause, can do so at www.wavesforwater.org/get-involved (please note “For Nepal”).

“Like jigsaw pieces, Daisy, Natalie, Bob, Tara, Sunny, Jon and I, are now joining talents and intentions for the purpose of helping Waves For Water bring safe drinking water to thousands of people in Nepal, who would otherwise suffer the consequences of dirty and deadly water sources,” ~ Jack Rose, Waves For Water

“And we’re all doing this by utilizing our ‘work’ vehicles for good. That’s what makes our ‘work’, work for each of us. Now we’re here to help you discover how to make yours, work for you.” ~ Daisy Swan, “The Los Angeles Career Coach”

Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

You don’t want to miss this group series! This will be the only career coaching group series that we offer, until September…

Job Search Strategies, Resume Updating and Tailoring, Networking (both social media and face-to-face), Stress Management, Support – and those all-important intangibles that make a difference – will be discussed in our Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group. We’ll give you some new ideas on how to position yourself in the new marketplace, and we’ll provide tips on dealing with stress – we know how challenging the job search and career transition process can be. We create a supportive environment for all group participants who, in the past, have become friends, and have helped each other with all sorts of things. And as always, group participants will receive guidance, inspiration and sound feedback from a professional career coach, all for a budget-friendly price.

At Daisy Swan & Associates, we know how it is these days. We hear it from clients who are working, and from those who aren’t. Are you feeling stressed, confused and overwhelmed about where and how to look for something new? Not even sure what to look for…? Don’t even know where those skills of yours fit, anymore? These are the telltale signs of burnout…and there’s a lot of that going on – everywhere, and at every LifeStage.

We’ve been tweaking our coaching group meetings to gear them towards specifically helping you ramp up your energy – while simultaneously managing your stress level – in order to find new ways of expanding and navigating your career options. We’ll help you to develop fresh methods of doing what you’ve been doing within your current job, or we’ll help you to get out there and find your next job. We’ll teach you how to think creatively about your options and to explore new opportunities. Maybe you’re ready to strike out on your own, but need a forum to figure out if that’s the right option for you. In this job market, creativity is key.

We will meet for four (4) two-hour sessions. Participants will receive direction on career exploration, job search strategies, and resume and cover letter preparation. Accountability and support from our career coaches helps everyone set goals and meet them, and our groups are always filled with smart people who have plenty to offer each other – so networking opportunities and new ideas are always percolating.

$199.00 per person fee includes all four (4) group meetings.

Starting Wednesday, June 20, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, meeting for four (4) Wednesdays at the Daisy Swan & Associates Marina Del Rey office (4132A Del Rey Avenue, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292)

Wednesday Evening Group ($199.00 for 4 meetings)

PLEASE NOTE: We will schedule more groups to meet any additional demand. If you receive an error message when you try to register for a group, that means that it is full – please send us an email to let us know that you are interested in the groups, and we will form additional group series.

What People Are Saying about Daisy Swan & Associates’ Career Coaching Groups:

“When I enrolled in the career workshop, I was interested in changing directions professionally, but was initially just focused on re-working my resume and finding a job. I never expected to leave the workshop with such a clear picture of the new career I want, and how to get there. The best part about the process was how easy it was; all I really had to do was relax and be honest about who I am and what I want. Christine really helped me to positively channel my energy and background into a new focus. Thank you for all of your help!” – Jen, April 2012 Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

“As a recent ‘graduate’ of this group, I can’t say enough good things. I’ve already made a couple significant changes that I know will lead me to a more fulfilling career and happier life. Awesome instructor and a lot of valuable information packed into a short four
weeks. I was so impressed by the class, I’ve recommended it to several friends and acquaintances looking to make a transition.” – Sharon, April 2012 Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

“Thanks so much Christine. I had my interview earlier today. I found the job and was introduced by a former colleague – some of the techniques taught in your four-week class on job strategy, and in the private coaching session. Yeah, it worked!” – Laura, February 2012 Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

“Christine, I just wanted to thank you so much for the many valuable things I learned in our career workshop! I felt it was informative, constructive, supportive and a great place for me to begin my job search. You helped me to gain clarity about my greatest talents and how to highlight them in my resume, how to build an effective and targeted job search campaign, how to creatively network and how to use social media to promote myself professionally. As an added bonus, I was able to form connections with my fellow workshop goers. We’re staying in touch and supporting one another in achieving our career goals. Thanks again! I’ll be sending my friends your way!” – Selina, February 2012 Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

“This class simultaneously delivered a broad, generalized approach to the job search while also dealing with each person’s more specific circumstances. This provided me with the comfort that my situation was going to get the attention it deserved, while not detracting from what the whole group came for, as well.” – Andy, February 2012 Career Reinvention and Job Search Strategies Group

“I would HIGHLY recommend this group to a friend because it really helped me look inside myself – something that most of us don’t spend much time on (even if we think otherwise). I went into the first session believing certain things about myself but lacked the ability to articulate what I really wanted to achieve. I only knew that I wanted help in getting “unstuck.” The group setting was so helpful because I was able to hear different opinions, insights and perspectives that I hadn’t been able to see on my own. And, we had the benefit of Daisy’s expertise guiding us along the way. Daisy and Annika were great listeners and managed to create an environment that both challenged and encouraged the individual. This was a very rewarding experience on many levels. I left feeling far more sure of myself and with a positive attitude to match. Above all, learning about self is very important and this class provided a great environment to do just that. What I understand about myself now won’t just get me through a job interview – but through life, itself. And that is something to which you cannot attach a dollar value!” – S.B., Los Angeles

Get Ready. Get Set.

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

Just as smart companies make a plan for rolling out new products, a smart job seeker needs a plan for launching his/her own job search. Smart companies, and smart job seekers, develop a strategy that implements leading-edge tools, tactics, and resources.

An effective search strategy is a marketing campaign, with you, the job seeker, as the product. Every product, even the best ones, won’t succeed without a strong marketing strategy. This begins with a comprehensive, yet flexible plan. First, you must know to whom you are marketing. You must identify the types of employers who would be looking for an employee with your qualifications, and the employers you would like to be your buyers. Where do you want to work?

Here at Daisy Swan & Associates, we will teach you how to build a job search marketing strategy that will provide you with a clear game-plan-of-action. Once you’ve established a strategy for your job search campaign, you can begin to move forward.

In this workshop, we will help you put pen to paper in a step-by-step, business framework style, to create a marketing plan for your job search. This will include proactive, strategic, and action-specific steps. This framework leads to a natural focus game-plan-of-action – and success.

Join us on June 8th to meet our five panelists who will be speaking about how they started their businesses and what challenges and opportunities they’ve experienced. This will be an opportunity to hear the truth about working for yourself, from a variety of people who transitioned from employee to employer.

Event attendees will hear about the panelists’ trials and tribulations in launching businesses of varying kinds, and the accompanying ups and downs of entrepreneurship. We’ll be discussing the steps that the panelists took in order to follow their passions and to create their own autonomy. Attendees will learn about what it takes to get going, and to keep going, and will receive a realistic picture of what to expect, how long the process takes, and what not to do when launching a business.

Daisy Swan will moderate this panel, while adding information and recommendations for how others can make a similarly successful jump.

June 8th event attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer perspectives and meet other curious individuals of like mind. Light refreshments will be available, and as with all of Daisy Swan & Associates’ events, there is a strong potential for meeting highly creative, intelligent people of all ages and LifeStages, through the networking portion of the evening.

When she returned to L.A. she learned her way around local farms and farmers’ markets, then earned her chef certificate at the Epicurean Culinary School and supplemented that with vegan cooking classes. Reisha then turned her love of agriculture and the slow food movement into a business that could bring this healthy way of eating to her neighbors in Los Angeles…that was the start of Farm Box LA, her business that delivers organic fruits and vegetables to your front door.

Designing a Creative Business

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

Are you thinking about putting your creative talents to work in a business of your own? Not sure where to start or how to focus your ideas? Confused about what it will take to make money from your talents? You are not alone. Most creative people find it easy to come up with ideas but difficult to turn their ideas into a viable business model.

At Daisy Swan & Associates, we see a lot of career-changing clients who are considering taking the step and developing a business of their own. This coaching group is specifically helping people who aren’t “business types” but rather writers, artists, performers and other “regular” people looking to take the first steps toward simplifying their business ideas and turning a dream into a reality.

We will look at ways to narrow your focus so that it makes profitable sense. You will conduct basic market research to see what your competition looks like. You will work on a simple business plan that you can use. Finally, you will be giving a presentation on your business to showcase what you are all about in a safe, supportive and confidential setting.

We are limiting this group to 6 (six) people to be sure everyone gets the time they need in each session.

Starting Thursday, October 14, 7:00-8:30 PM, meeting 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/11 and 11/18, at the Daisy Swan & Associates Wilshire office (11620 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 900-034, Los Angeles, CA 90025)

What People Are Saying about Daisy Swan & Associates’ Career Coaching Groups:

October Coaching Groups

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

Hosted by Daisy Swan & Associates

October is upon us – it’s time to shake off summer mode, and gear up for a fruitful fall! In order to start you on your path – or to re-energize you on that path – we will be starting up a new Saturday morning group for those of you who are thinking about going back to school to develop or enhance your skills and credentials, aptly named “School Yourself to New Career Opportunities”. Please read on to learn about this group, and then sign up soon, as space is limited!

School Yourself to New Career Opportunities

Is it time for you to get back to school? Are you one of the many underutilized brains out there that need the kind of care and feeding that only a good undergraduate or graduate degree can provide? Are you realizing that it’s time to make a radical career change that a new degree can help you to launch? Or will another form of continuing education do the trick?

We see bored and frustrated people of all ages – all the time – who don’t know where to look for their next educational experience. And if you feel that you are ready to get back to school, researching schools and programs – and then testing and applying to them – can be a daunting and overwhelming process. We know, we’ve been there.

This three-session coaching group offers a forum for you to figure out if this is the right time to get back to school, how to make the most of your investment, and how to develop a step-by-step action plan to get where it is that you want to go.

As a group participant you’ll receive coaching and support, and hear from others who are receiving the same, in order to help you with this major decision and investment. Topics will include researching the connection between getting a graduate degree and getting a job, opportunities for job-specific training, choosing the right program for you, what goes into a strong application package, and many other aspects of applying to schools. We’ve designed this program with a week off in-between sessions to provide time for participants to start their research and to use the group for support as they uncover answers, and tackle challenges. These sessions will be facilitated by Daisy Swan & Associates.

This group series will include three (3) sessions, for a package price of $145.00 per person.* This will include grad school research prep, checklists, evaluation criteria, and much more. This group will be limited to six (6) participants, who will receive intensive support and help in launching their graduate school careers, as well as a discount on future Daisy Swan & Associates programs and events, or a separate full review consultation of your application packet.

Starting Saturday, October 10, from 10:00am – 12:00pm, meeting three (3) times, every other Saturday (October 10, October 24, November 7) at the Daisy Swan & Associates Brentwood office (11812 San Vicente Blvd., Suite 505, Los Angeles, CA 90049.

* All group participants will receive a 10% discount off of additional programs and coaching. We will be announcing new panel and networking events soon, which will feature employers and graduate admissions professionals.

PLEASE NOTE: We will schedule more groups to meet any additional demand. If you receive an error message when you try to register for a group, that means that it is full – please send us an email to let us know that you are interested in the groups, and we will form additional group series.

Somatic Bodywork Sessions with Certified Master Somatic Coach, Madeline Wade

PLEASE NOTE: This event has already occurred.

We are pleased to announce that Daisy’s friend and colleague, Madeline Wade, Certified Master Somatic Coach, is coming to Los Angeles February 10-13, 2010. Madeline is currently taking Somatic Bodywork appointments for February 10, 11, 12 and 13, but be sure to schedule an appointment soon, as spots are limited!

What is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic Bodywork is a unique style of bodywork that brings forward your awareness of your physical body, in a way that it becomes an advocate for creating change and transformation. In a 75-minute session, the client can expect conversation and fully clothed pressure-points bodywork.

Madeline helps you to move through historical contractions that limit the bodily expression for effectiveness, authenticity, compassion and integrity of action.

Since 1998, Madeline has studied at the Strozzi Institute directly under its founder, Dr. Richard Strozzi-Heckler, and has two years of study in trauma work through Staci Haines’ courses. She has a private practice, where she works with people who are looking to create a body that can take a stand for what they want in their lives. Madeline draws from 25 years as a leader in the corporate world as well as her own personal journey.

Madeline’s somatic bodywork experience started in 1998. She creates a safe and comfortable atmosphere to enable clients to open to new possibilities. She accomplishes this by bringing people into a deep understanding and relationship with their whole being, through the body.

Madeline’s diverse background of life experiences include: 32-year primary relationship, being the first female journeyman cabinetmaker in the State of Virginia; dealing with an ongoing health challenge; serving four years in the United States Air Force; and having made over 150 parachute jumps.

Madeline’s commitment is to assist clients in two specific areas: (1) Being effective observers of themselves and others; and (2) Being powerful instruments of change for themselves and for the world. She supports individuals in identifying their natural strengths and transforming their self-limiting beliefs and habits. Madeline’s passion is guiding people to reach their full potential and live lives with joy.

To set up an appointment with Madeline, please call 310-820-8877 or email [email protected]. Sessions run for 75 minutes each, and cost $110.00 for one session, or $190.00 (total) for two sessions.

What people are saying about Madeline Wade…

“The combination of Madeline’s loving presence, her healing touch, keen eye for what to encourage into life, and her well earned wisdom produces powerful and actionable results for her clients. I unequivocally recommend her as a somatic bodyworker.”
